Making choices, solving problems and learning to tidy up: independence starts small at Heathfield's nursery. The school's Early Years Leadership approach begins with these everyday habits, giving children responsibility for themselves and their surroundings. Learning to work with other children is part of that approach too.
This is Heathfield Infant School's own nursery provision in Twickenham, within Heathfield Schools' Partnership. Its nursery admissions information describes entry from the term following a child's third birthday.
Early Years Leadership gives nursery children practice in making decisions, solving problems and working together. Children also learn to take responsibility for tidying and organising their surroundings. These everyday tasks give independence a practical meaning: choosing what to do, cooperating with others and helping care for the space they share. Responsibility is introduced through actions a young child can understand.
For a child needing additional help, the partnership's support structure includes SEND teachers, teaching assistants and trained volunteers. Interventions address needs such as memory, processing, literacy, maths and social skills, alongside emotional or behavioural difficulties. Outside agencies can be involved where appropriate. Families can discuss their child's difficulties and support with staff, giving parents a route into those conversations rather than leaving concerns solely to classroom observation.
A SENCO/Inclusion Manager contact serves Nursery and Infants: senco@heathfield-inf.richmond.sch.uk. This is the relevant contact for discussing additional needs.
English as an Additional Language support is organised across the partnership. Its approaches include individual interventions, preparation before classroom tasks, visual and audio resources, and bilingual books from the school library to support parental involvement in learning. For parents, the useful connection is between classroom learning and language support at home. Coordination between the EAL lead and class teachers links additional help with classroom work.
Communication also has a regular school-wide channel. Partnership newsletters appear fortnightly during term time, both on Parent Hub and on the website.
Nursery attendance does not guarantee a Reception place. Families must make a separate Reception application through the normal admissions process.
For September 2026 entry, the school's application information directed parents to eAdmissions and gave a deadline of 15 January 2026. That cycle is past. Nursery participation and the Reception application should be treated as separate decisions.
Lunch club and additional afternoon sessions can be purchased on an ad hoc basis. This gives families an occasional extension option; contact the school for current charges.
Nursery enquiries go to the Infant school office on 020 8894 4074 or info@heathfield-inf.richmond.sch.uk. The main school entrance is on Cobbett Road. Whitton Station is approximately fifteen minutes away on foot.
School Streets restrictions. Cameras operate around Heathfield during term time from 8:00am to 9:15am and from 2:45pm to 3:45pm. Drivers need an approved exemption to avoid a penalty during restricted hours, so collection and travel plans should take those windows into account.
