Play with natural materials, a large garden and access to a heated indoor pool give The Mall Nursery its own character. This is the independent school's day nursery for girls and boys aged six months to four years, based at 84 Hampton Road in Twickenham, a short walk from the main school. It opened in September 2022. Children have a separate nursery base alongside opportunities to use school facilities.
Children's interests shape the learning. Play is the main approach, with natural and authentic resources providing materials for exploration. The Early Years Curriculum draws on the school's specialist teaching staff, bringing school expertise into the nursery programme. The emphasis is on following what interests a child rather than describing the day as a sequence of formal lessons.
Spacious rooms and a large garden provide indoor and outdoor places to play and learn. Nursery children also use the school's heated indoor swimming pool and its 160-seat theatre, extending their activities beyond the nursery building. A swimming class is included in nursery fees, subject to availability. That qualification matters when considering swimming as part of your child's routine.
Meals and everyday supplies are included in the nursery fee. Children receive lunch and tea as well as breakfast, a morning snack and refreshments. For babies under one, formula is included if needed, followed by an individual menu during weaning. Wipes, nappies and creams, including sun cream, are covered too. Parents therefore have fewer daily supplies to pack.
The nursery manager holds an NVQ Level 3 qualification in Early Years/Education. Communication also features in nursery parent feedback: one parent describes receiving photographs in a weekly update and hearing from staff about new skills and developmental milestones. This gives a concrete example of how learning is shared with home.
Nursery attendance brings an automatic Reception offer here. The school's admission arrangements give nursery children first priority, followed by siblings and then registration order. Parents must still confirm the offer with an acceptance deposit, due 12 months before the child's start date. Treat the nursery booking and acceptance of the school place as distinct steps; the route is directly through The Mall School.
Preparation for the move is separate from that admissions advantage. After a Reception place is confirmed, families receive weekly newsletters and invitations to preparatory events. A transition programme also applies to children in the nursery's pre-school year, helping them prepare for their next school.
Core hours run from 7:30am to 6:30pm, with a minimum booking of three full days. An earlier start at 7:00am and collection as late as 7:00pm can be requested; additional care carries an extra charge. This booking model suits families seeking substantial daytime care.
The nursery opens for 51 weeks, closing for a week between Christmas and New Year. Eligible families can use the 15-hour or 30-hour funded entitlement, calculated over 38 weeks and spread across the nursery's 51-week year. Payments are made monthly in advance by standing order or BACS. Contact the school for current charges.
To arrange a nursery tour, submit the nursery enquiry form; staff will contact you about a visit. A buggy park provides storage for families bringing a pushchair.
