Nursery at Ryefield Primary School

Three session options give Ryefield’s nursery its practical shape: mornings, afternoons or an all-day place. The provision serves children aged 3 and 4 within Ryefield Primary School in Hillingdon. Its early years block is at ground level.
For the 2026 entry cycle, nursery capacity was 78 children across 39 morning and 39 afternoon places, with capacity for up to 24 all-day places. Those figures describe provision, rather than a promise of a vacancy.
Learning sits within the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS). Knowledge, vocabulary and skills are planned from early years onwards, with teaching building on what children already understand. In March 2023, Ofsted described an increased emphasis on phonics in early years, while asking leaders to embed their work on early reading across the school. That makes the foundations of reading a relevant point of discussion for families.
Across Ryefield, Kagan cooperative learning strategies encourage children to learn together. SCERTS approaches help them express feelings and thoughts, while Zones of Regulation provides visual support for emotions. These give children ways to participate beyond simply answering an adult’s question. Visual timetables in classrooms also make the sequence of activities visible.
Before a child starts, families have an appointment with the nursery teacher. Staff gather information about the child, giving parents a chance to explain needs and routines before the first session. For children with SEND, the SENCo aims to meet the family beforehand and contact professionals already involved so that strategies can be shared.
Health information includes dietary requirements, allergies, medication and any disability or special educational need affecting learning. Parents can explain these together, rather than treating care and learning as separate concerns.
The school’s inclusion team combines a SENCo with a Family Support and SEND Support Officer. A dedicated Hub classroom provides space for communication and wellbeing support. Provision is matched to individual needs and the resources available. Class Dojo connects parents with teachers for everyday communication; termly parents’ evenings provide another opportunity to discuss progress. Children with personalised SEND targets have My Support Plans, with targets reviewed each term alongside parents.
Nursery attendance does not guarantee a Reception place and gives no priority for one. Families must make a separate application through their home local authority. For September 2027 entry, the deadline is 15 January 2027. Hillingdon coordinates the normal admissions round locally, so choosing nursery and applying for Reception are separate decisions.
Transition support is a different matter. For children with SEND changing classes, information passes between teachers, and families can meet the next teacher. A child may have advance visits with a familiar adult, and a Social Story can help explain the change. These arrangements support preparation; they do not alter admission priority.
Morning sessions run from 08:45 to 11:45, afternoons from 12:30 to 15:30, and all-day sessions from 08:45 to 15:30. Session availability depends on demand and staffing, with the options confirmed at enquiry. Families can contact the office on 01895 547036 or ryefield.enquiries@ryefieldprimary.org.uk and arrange a visit.
Collection takes place at the classroom door: nursery children are released individually after the collecting adult has been identified. Tell the office or teacher if someone else will collect your child. There is no onsite parking, which matters when planning the journey.
End-of-term afternoons need special attention. There is no afternoon nursery session on the final days of the 2026–2027 terms, so families using afternoon provision need to plan around those dates.
The nursery provides for children aged 3 and 4. Children can join from the term after their third birthday, subject to places being available.
Mornings are 08:45–11:45, afternoons 12:30–15:30, and all-day places 08:45–15:30. Availability depends on staffing and demand.
No. Attendance does not guarantee a Reception place or confer priority. A separate application through your home local authority is required; the deadline for September 2027 entry is 15 January 2027.
After a place is confirmed, parents meet the nursery teacher so staff can gather information about the child. The SENCo also aims to meet families of children with SEND before they start.
