Specialist music teaching and practical maths give this nursery a clear connection to school life from the start. St Bernadette’s nursery takes children from age three within a Catholic primary school on Long Lane, Hillingdon. The school shares its site with St Bernadette’s RC Church, giving families a concrete sense of its parish setting.
For the September 2026 intake, the nursery has 26 morning places and 26 afternoon places, with an intended intake of 52 part-time children. The school aims to shape education around Catholic values, including honesty, tolerance and respect. That religious character is part of the educational choice families make here.
Morning and afternoon sessions each last three hours. A full-time pattern extends from 8:30am to 3:15pm, although full-time places depend on space remaining after part-time allocation. Families therefore need to distinguish the length of the day from the availability of that attendance pattern.
The Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) provides the framework for early learning. Mathematics follows White Rose Maths, adapted for the children, with practical experiences connected to real situations in the early years. This gives mathematical ideas an everyday context rather than presenting them only as abstract exercises.
Music begins in Nursery, with lessons delivered by a specialist music teacher. Listening, composing and performing form the school’s musical approach, bringing opportunities for children to explore sound and expression. Early technology learning uses guided activities and play. Exploring people and change introduces understanding of the past, while investigating the immediate environment begins children’s geographical learning. These are early experiences of understanding the world around them.
A nursery teacher and nursery nurse make up the nursery teaching team. The wider school has an inclusion lead/SENCO, alongside pastoral and parent support and a welfare role. Parents can direct SEND queries to send@stbernadetteschool.co.uk and family support queries to familysupport@stbernadetteschool.co.uk.
For concerns about a child, the class teacher is the first contact. Families can request a return call through the office or email the teacher, allowing two working days for a response. Further support can be sought from the phase leader. That gives parents a sequence of contacts rather than leaving them to decide whom to approach.
The school’s joining arrangements include a transition meeting with the class teacher after a place is accepted, followed by contact to check how the child and family are settling. Emotional learning also reaches Nursery through personal, social and health education. Zones of regulation is the school’s approach to helping children recognise and express feelings.
Taylor Shaw supplies school meals, and a medical-diet request route covers allergies, intolerances and conditions requiring an adapted menu. This is a practical consideration for families managing food-related medical needs.
Nursery attendance does not guarantee a Reception place and confers no nursery-attendance priority under the 2027-2028 arrangements. A fresh application is required. Familiarity with the school does not replace that application.
For September 2027 entry, families must apply through their local authority using the eAdmissions/Common Application Form by 15th January 2027. The school’s Supplementary Information Form is optional, but enables assessment against the oversubscription criteria; omitting it may leave an application ranked under the lowest criterion. Catholic applicants receive priority when applications exceed places.
Morning sessions run from 8:30am to 11:30am, with drop-off between 8:30am and 8:45am and collection between 11:15am and 11:30am. Afternoon sessions run from 12:15pm to 3:15pm; drop-off is between 12:15pm and 12:30pm, and collection between 3:00pm and 3:15pm. Full-time children use the corresponding morning drop-off and afternoon collection windows.
Nursery applications go directly to the school. Contact admissions@stbernadetteschool.co.uk for enquiries. Families accepting a part-time place can remain on a waiting list for a full-time place, so childcare planning should reflect the place actually offered.
Morning sessions are 8:30am to 11:30am, afternoon sessions are 12:15pm to 3:15pm, and full-time sessions are 8:30am to 3:15pm.
Full-time places are conditional on space remaining after part-time places have been allocated. Families can join a waiting list while accepting a part-time place.
