Nursery at Salisbury Primary School

A morning session with an 11.40am finish gives Salisbury’s nursery a clear practical shape. This is the school’s own provision in Darlaston, with nursery enquiries handled by the school office. Children’s funded entitlement begins in the term after their third birthday, making that term an important point for families planning their start.
The nursery team consists of a class teacher and two teaching assistants. It sits within the school’s early years provision, with an assistant head responsible for the early years and infant phase. For parents, that gives the nursery both its own teaching team and a place within the school’s leadership structure.
Language is the clearest curriculum emphasis. At the July 2024 inspection, Ofsted identified vocabulary and communication as priorities across the early years curriculum. In plain parent language, the focus is on building children’s words and their ability to communicate. That is a useful lens for understanding the learning emphasis here.
Nursery children have also taken part in Salisbury’s sunflower growing competition, organised by the School Council. A nursery winner appears among the results. Growing a sunflower gives this school activity a concrete connection to young children’s experience of plants, rather than leaving participation as an abstract ambition.
The morning has a defined collection point: nursery finishes at 11.40am. Families can use that timing to plan the rest of their child’s day.
Parents have a route into discussions about additional needs through the school’s SENCo. An appointment can be arranged through the office. The school assigns responsibility for barriers to learning and additional support to a designated team member, giving families a clear person to approach about access to learning.
Termly parent consultations provide time to discuss progress and what comes next. Newsletters carry school updates, and parents can contact staff with concerns between meetings. This combines scheduled conversations with a direct contact route.
Walsall Catering runs the school meal service. Its provision includes alternatives for allergies, intolerances and religious dietary requirements; families are asked to discuss these needs with the catering service. The office can arrange a meeting with the catering team, so dietary conversations have a practical route.
Separate application. Attending Salisbury’s nursery does not guarantee a Reception place. Families must apply separately through the normal school admissions process and meet the applicable deadline. Salisbury directs Reception applicants to Walsall’s school admissions service. Treat choosing the nursery and applying for Reception as separate decisions.
The nursery uses the Station Street gate. Morning access runs from 8.40am until the gates close at 8.55am; these are gate opening times, rather than a stated nursery lesson start. Collection for the morning session is at 11.40am.
The school describes a 15-hour childcare entitlement beginning in the term after a child turns three. To discuss a nursery place, telephone the office on 0121 667 4066. General enquiries can also go to postbox@salisbury.walsall.sch.uk.
