Nursery at St Andrew's Church of England Primary School

Clear routines and early attention to speech and language give the youngest children a practical starting point at St Andrew's. The nursery belongs to the Church of England primary school on Littlemoor Road in Preston, Weymouth, rather than being a separate school choice. Diocese of Salisbury Academy Trust counts St Andrew's among its member schools.
Routines matter here. In May 2025, Ofsted found that staff working in the early years helped children settle promptly by making expectations clear. For a child beginning group care, that gives the day a framework they can learn to recognise.
Children in the Foundation Stage receive fruit daily through the National Fruit Scheme. This brings a regular snack into the day. Across the Diocese of Salisbury Academy Trust, colleagues working in the Early Years Foundation Stage collaborate, giving staff a connection with early years teams beyond their own school.
Speech and language receive attention early. The May 2025 inspection identified checks on children's speech and language needs in the early years, helping children access the support they require. This is a concrete point for families whose child needs help with communication.
At school level, the teacher carries day-to-day responsibility for children with special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND), including those with an Education, Health and Care Plan. Support can involve outside agencies where appropriate. Parents can contact the SEND coordinator through the office, providing a direct route for discussing concerns.
Communication across St Andrew's includes an emailed newsletter every fortnight and Arbor for messages and parents' evening bookings. Brief conversations with teachers are possible at the beginning and end of the day; longer discussions need a meeting. That distinction gives families a way to raise a quick concern while reserving time for more detailed conversations.
Nursery attendance does not guarantee a Reception place. Families must make a separate application through the normal Reception admissions process. At St Andrew's, that route is Dorset County Council's School Admissions Team, with applications beginning on 1 September for the next academic year.
Treat choosing the nursery and applying for Reception as two separate decisions. Becoming familiar with the school does not remove the need to apply again.

Food allergies. St Andrew's operates a nut-free rule because of severe allergies. Families sending food must check packaging, making this an everyday consideration when preparing food from home.
At school level, hot meals are supplied by Local Food Links, while children can also bring a healthy packed lunch. Keep the school's meal arrangements distinct from the free-meal entitlement for Reception and Years 1 and 2: that entitlement applies to those year groups.
No. Families must apply separately for Reception through Dorset County Council's School Admissions Team.
