Listening and sound blending, songs and outdoor learning give Little Willows its character. This teacher-led nursery is Woodbridge Primary School’s Foundation 1 (F1) provision for children aged 3 and 4, with a maximum class size of 24. It is the nursery class within the school, so families are choosing an early school setting rather than a separate childcare provider.
Ofsted judged the school’s early years provision Good at the inspection on 29 and 30 April 2025. That judgement covers early years within the school; it is not a separate nursery rating. The early years findings describe children keen to learn and adults who understand them well.
Early reading begins with listening. The phonics programme starts in the nursery year, teaching children to hear and blend sounds. That gives the youngest children a specific starting point for learning to read.
In April 2025, early years activities included number work, reading and letter formation, alongside songs and rhymes. Learning extended outdoors as well as taking place in the classroom. Children could put developing skills to use in planned activities, giving practice a practical purpose.
Story themes also shaped the learning. One example involved children adding labels to key moments from The Hungry Caterpillar. This connected a familiar story with early writing: a concrete task with something to communicate.
Curriculum development. The April 2025 findings identified weaknesses in how some subjects connected key concepts and how assessment informed subsequent teaching. These were school-wide concerns within a curriculum extending from nursery onwards, rather than findings confined to Little Willows. They qualify the positive early years picture and make continuity in learning an important consideration.
The nursery team includes a teacher who also holds the early years leadership and special educational needs coordinator (SENCo) roles, an early years educator and a teaching assistant. This brings teaching, early years leadership and SEND coordination into the nursery’s staffing structure.
In April 2025, adults in early years understood the children well. For families, that knowledge matters alongside the planned activities: support can begin with an understanding of the individual child. Safeguarding concerns can be raised with the school’s safeguarding team through the office.
Attending Little Willows does not guarantee a Reception place at Woodbridge Primary School. Nursery admission and Reception admission are separate applications. Familiarity with the school should therefore be kept separate from expectations about securing a place.
Families apply for Reception through Suffolk County Council. Applications close in January before the September start, with the precise closing date set by the council. The nursery application goes directly to the school instead. Parents need to complete the Reception process even when their child already attends Little Willows.
A term-time nursery day runs from 8:50am to 3:30pm, Monday to Friday. That is a school-term pattern, so families should plan their childcare around term dates as well as the daily hours.
Apply by sending a completed nursery application form to the school office; paper copies can be requested. Prospective families can arrange a tour through the office, and open events also take place. Arbor handles family emails, forms and payments, bringing these practical exchanges into one app.
