At a Glance

A six-and-a-half-hour nursery day, with shorter sessions and care at either end, gives Stamford Bridge families several ways to shape the week. This is the school's own nursery, forming part of its Infant School in the village. Applications are welcomed from age three; children enter in the term following their third birthday. There are 16 places each day. September, January and April are the three intake points, subject to space.

The school aims to encourage imagination, exploration and independence while respecting each child's individuality. The nursery team comprises a lead and a nursery nurse, within the wider early years team. For parents, the appeal is a choice of attendance patterns within a primary school setting.

The Nursery Day

The Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) combines learning to communicate and manage feelings with physical development, early reading, mathematics, creativity and discovering the world. Here, listening, concentration and cooperating with other children sit alongside early language and number work. These are foundations for taking part in learning, rather than simply practising academic tasks.

Early communication, literacy and maths are part of the nursery's learning foundations. The early years curriculum also emphasises persistence and learning independently, helping children develop the habits they need to keep trying and take part alongside others.

Outdoor facilities include a playing field and climbing equipment on each of the school's two sites. Early years children also have the opportunity for swimming lessons at Stamford Bridge Community Swimming Pool. Physical activity therefore has a place alongside communication and classroom learning.

Care and Support

Tapestry gives parents an online record of observations about their child's learning. It provides a concrete connection between nursery experiences and home. Before children begin full-time education, families are invited to meet the early years team; introductory sessions and staff visits to pre-school settings are also part of preparation.

A morning can extend through lunch, with either food brought from home or a charged hot school meal. The school is nut free. Its approach to independence includes manageable clothing fastenings, handwashing and help with cutting food when needed, and parents are encouraged to speak to the team about support with these routines.

For children with special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND), support follows a cycle of assessing needs, planning with families, putting help into practice and reviewing its impact. Plans are considered at least termly, giving parents a recurring opportunity to discuss adjustments. The school has ramps and accessible entrances on both sites, practical features for families considering mobility needs.

Moving On to Reception

Nursery attendance neither guarantees a Reception place nor gives admission priority. Families must make a separate application through their home local authority. For September 2027 entry, the deadline is 15 January 2027; East Riding residents can apply online through the council's school admissions service, while families elsewhere apply through their own council.

Preparation for the next stage includes introductory school sessions and contact with the early years team. Children receiving SEND support also have transition planning, with the SENDCo helping the class teacher arrange the transfer of relevant information. This preparation is separate from the decision about a Reception place.

Practical Information

Full days run from 8:30am to 3pm. Morning attendance ends at noon, or at 1pm when lunch is included; afternoons run from 1pm to 3pm. Collection can be by a parent, carer or named person.

Funding covers a 15-hour entitlement, with 30 hours available to eligible families. Five full nursery days total 32½ hours, so families pay for hours beyond their entitlement. Paid sessions are also possible when childcare entitlement is not used at school. Contact the school for current charges.

Breakfast Club runs from 7:30am to 8:30am through an external provider on the Lower Site during term time. The 1066 After School Club operates during term time, offering sessions from 3pm to 4pm or 5:30pm, subject to availability, with regular weekly bookings or casual places where space permits. These sessions incur charges unless included in entitled hours.

Uniform includes a navy sweatshirt or cardigan with the school logo and a white or pale blue polo shirt. PACT organises second-hand sales. Nursery enquiries and tours go through the school office on 01759 371430 or office@stamfordbridgeschool.co.uk. Places are subject to availability, and a waiting list is operating for future admissions.
