In August 2023, activities included finding and naming hidden animals in sand, exploring patterns, sizes and shapes, and working with paint and play dough. Family photographs and individual and shared artwork gave children visible ownership of their surroundings. Outside, the tyre circuit, bicycles and cars created frequent chances to balance, move and judge manageable risks.

Independence runs through ordinary routines. At the 2023 inspection, children served food onto their own plates, older children put on their shoes and younger children attempted their trainer fastenings. Staff also prepared children for changes in the day and explained what would happen next, helping them remain involved. During sand play, adults named hidden animals and children repeated those names to one another. This joined vocabulary, cooperation and curiosity in one simple activity. Creative work had equal visibility: paintings, play-dough experiences and collaborative artwork gave children different ways to make choices and represent ideas. Displays of family photographs connected nursery life with home and helped children see their own families reflected in the setting.

Safeguarding arrangements were effective at that inspection. Staff knew referral procedures, recruitment and vetting were thorough, ratios were maintained, and daily safety checks and close supervision supported children's safety. The special educational needs coordinator worked with key persons and local-authority advisers to seek early help and use funding for extra resources.

Parents described regular updates, daily communication and flexibility around family childcare needs. The inspection also recorded a long-serving team whose members spoke respectfully of one another and felt managers prioritised their wellbeing. For children, that continuity matters because secure relationships make reassurance, settling and the move between routines easier. Ofsted nevertheless asked leaders to give staff more detailed feedback on their interactions and to keep improving children's understanding of healthy eating and the nutritional quality of food.
