Lavendale Montessori is a 58-place nursery in the grounds of Woodside Park Club, Southover, Woodside Park, London N12 7JG. Its latest full Ofsted inspection, in May 2023, judged it Good across education, behaviour and attitudes, personal development, and leadership and management. The Early Years Foundation Stage means that play, routines and guided activities build communication, physical, personal, social and early academic development. This is an inspection-led profile: the clearest picture is of practice on that date rather than the current daily offer.
Children were happy and settled readily in May 2023. Inspectors found ambitious expectations, secure relationships with familiar adults and extremely good behaviour. That combination points to a calm setting where learning and emotional security worked together.
In May 2023, staff followed a coherent, sequenced curriculum. Stories, rhymes and listening activities gave communication and language a clear emphasis, with practitioners introducing new concepts and vocabulary as children developed. The approach sits within the Early Years Foundation Stage, meaning play, routines and guided activities build children's communication, physical, personal, social and early academic development towards the statutory early learning goals.
Independence also ran through the observed day. Babies practised early movement and feeding skills, toddlers worked on toileting and managing their coats, and preschool children made choices and sustained concentration. These are ordinary moments used purposefully, rather than care routines separated from learning.
In May 2023, children formed secure relationships with familiar adults, while parents valued personalised care and communication about learning. Staff also supported children with special educational needs and/or disabilities through the sequenced curriculum.
Safeguarding was effective at that inspection. Recruitment and vetting checks were completed, staff understood reporting responsibilities, and adults supervised children across safe indoor and outdoor areas. Ofsted nevertheless asked leaders to strengthen mentoring for less-experienced staff and organise group activities so every child could engage fully.
The nursery is at The Grounds of Woodside Park Club, Southover, Woodside Park, London N12 7JG, with capacity for 58 children. Families need a current written quotation and direct details of attendance patterns before comparing the practical offer with alternatives.
Lavendale Montessori's May 2023 inspection presents a persuasive picture of settled children, secure adult relationships and purposeful learning through everyday routines. The Good judgement and effective safeguarding matter, but so do the two improvement points around group-time engagement and staff mentoring. It best suits families who value independence, language development and a personalised approach, once the nursery's current attendance pattern and costs have been checked against their needs.
