Songs, sign language and newly introduced vocabulary supported communication. Twice-daily gatherings at base camp brought stories and songs into the outdoor routine, connecting active exploration with shared listening and language.

Practical tasks mattered too. Children made snacks and play dough, selected their own hats and mittens in cold weather, and washed their hands independently. External drama and physical-education teachers also visited. The combination gives energetic children repeated opportunities to move while keeping language and story work close at hand. It is purposeful rather than ornamental outdoor time.

Relationships were a strength at the inspection. Inspectors saw secure relationships, cooperative play and confident communication between children. Parents described useful progress information and greater confidence, giving families a clear picture of partnership at that point.

Safeguarding arrangements were effective in November 2022. Ofsted found that staff could identify and escalate concerns, and that recruitment controls were in place.

Ofsted later recorded a food-related incident notified in October 2023, when a meal did not meet a child's specific dietary needs. The provider reviewed its food and drink policy and risk assessment, and staff received refresher food-safety training; Ofsted recorded that action had been taken to put matters right. This history makes present dietary controls a material discussion rather than a footnote, especially for a child whose meals need substitution or separation.
