Warm relationships are the clearest strength at Kiddies Palace Nursery. Ofsted rated the setting Good in September 2024, with effective safeguarding and Good judgements across education, behaviour, personal development and leadership. The setting is based at Slade Green & Howbury Community Centre & Library on Chrome Road, Erith, and has 58 places in total.
That judgement followed an Inadequate inspection in May 2024. By September, leaders had strengthened staff supervision, improved resources and rearranged the learning environment. This quick improvement matters, but families should judge the current experience as well as the latest grade.
In September 2024, children explored activities prepared to encourage exploration. Staff used conversation and expressive activities to build language. The Early Years Foundation Stage connects this play-led curriculum to areas of learning and children's development, rather than treating activities as entertainment alone.
The same inspection found children engaged in the activities prepared for them. Outdoors, they practised throwing and catching balls and climbed challenging equipment during risky play. Staff also modelled kindness and respect, helping children cooperate and handle resources responsibly.
In September 2024, staff helped children separate from parents, built close bonds and knew their personalities. Everyday routines developed independence: children fed themselves at snack time, put on coats and, when ready, cleared their bowls. Consistent toileting, handwashing and lunchtime routines gave the day a predictable shape.
Safeguarding was effective at the latest inspection. Leaders also worked with external professionals so children with special educational needs and disabilities could progress towards their targets. One weakness remained: children who speak English as an additional language did not always get enough opportunity to use their home languages in play and learning.

Kiddies Palace Nursery will best suit families who value warm key relationships, practical independence and active outdoor play. The latest Good judgement and rapid response to the earlier weaknesses are encouraging. Families whose required attendance pattern is available should weigh the care evidence alongside practical details, while parents of younger children or children with English as an additional language have two precise areas to test during a visit.
Ofsted rated it Good in September 2024, with effective safeguarding and Good judgements in all four graded areas.
