Counting scoops joined number to a physical task; recalling planetary properties tested memory and understanding; explanations and commentary gave children language for what they were doing. The curriculum was judged challenging and inclusive, including for children receiving additional funding, and leaders monitored progress so that gaps could be addressed.

Relationships were a clear strength in August 2021. Children were happy, safe and settled, younger children formed strong attachments, and staff communicated sensitively with babies. Parents received feedback both in person and through an app, including songs, videos and specific ideas for learning at home.

Safeguarding was effective at the inspection: staff understood child-protection procedures, used risk assessments and supervised children well. Ofsted also identified two improvements. Staff needed to apply the curriculum more consistently through routines, including giving some children more individual support at mealtimes, and to help all children, including those learning English as an additional language, express themselves confidently and deepen their understanding of equality and diversity.

The contrast is important for parents. Strong adult-child interaction and well-planned learning sat alongside moments when implementation was less consistent. The improvement points were precise, covering both an everyday routine and children's ability to communicate and understand difference, so they provide useful subjects for a visit rather than cancelling out the wider Good judgement.
