Children were described as safe and happy in May 2023. Staff knew how to respond to concerns and received regular safeguarding training and local-authority updates. For children with special educational needs and/or disabilities, leaders worked with external professionals to set targets and use recommended strategies. Staff also supported children's home languages where appropriate, helping care reflect individual communication needs.

Practice was not uniformly secure. Inspectors identified a need for leaders to embed routines more consistently, especially during transitions, after some children became unsettled while waiting for beds to be prepared after lunch. They also identified a need for more consistently effective next-step targets, because some staff concentrated on activities rather than precisely what key children needed to learn next.
