Younger children dug soil, buried vegetables and made paint marks with string; older children planted flower seeds and discussed watering.

The educational approach was responsive rather than fixed. In March 2023, staff planned from children's interests and stages of development, then reviewed purposeful activities and individual progress in weekly meetings. Mathematics ran through play: children counted toy hens, used number beanbags and encountered ideas about division, volume and size. This gives parents concrete evidence of adults extending play with language and concepts instead of merely supervising it.

Physical play had real variety. Children used ride-along toys, balls and balancing equipment in the garden, joined music-and-movement indoors and explored an outdoor kitchen. Older and younger children played cooperatively, giving the mixed-age environment a sociable character.

Daily relationships were similarly purposeful. Staff counted children regularly, checked play spaces, knew how to respond to immediate welfare concerns and discussed safeguarding each week. Meals were balanced and nutritious at that date, although inspectors asked the nursery to organise mealtimes so younger children had more opportunity to serve themselves and build independence. Staff supervision and professional development were the other improvement point.

Its character is clearest for a child who responds to songs, conversation, physical activity and hands-on exploration.
