Language work was woven through those experiences. Adults named what babies touched, added commentary to play and offered alternative vocabulary rather than turning every exchange into a question. Singing and signing widened access, while words from children’s home languages recognised knowledge they already brought. For a child still finding a spoken voice, that creates more than one route into shared attention and participation.

Settling was a clear strength at the 2024 inspection. Staff used individualised settling plans and a well-established key-person system; children formed secure attachments and played in a calm atmosphere. Adults spoke gently, sought permission before personal care and helped less-confident children join flexible circle times.

Staff also identified children who were not making expected progress and leaders arranged targeted plans and interventions linked to clear targets. That matters because a concern was turned into a planned response rather than left as a general observation. Children discussed healthy food, enjoyed meals and washed their hands thoroughly. The improvement point from that visit was precise: older children needed more consistent help to understand how to manage their own wellbeing and maintain healthy practices.

Leadership had also tightened communication between adults by introducing radios for staff movements, while induction, mentoring, feedback and coaching supported teaching. These details matter in a setting of this scale: individual relationships depend on adults sharing information consistently as children move through routines and spaces.
