Rooms and Ages

Two Baby Rooms serve children from three to approximately 18 months. A bi-folding door lets practitioners combine the spacious rooms or make two calmer spaces, while a separate sleep room supports individual nap patterns. Babies have free-flow play alongside tummy time and sensory, messy and creative experiences planned around milestones and interests.

The Toddler Room covers roughly 18 to 30 months. Resources are arranged for individual and group play, and practitioners use children's interests and schemas to plan learning. Handwashing and early toileting practice make independence part of the room's daily rhythm.

Upstairs, two Pre-School Rooms serve children aged 2.5 to 3.5 and those aged 3.5 upwards. A central middle area connects them, with doors available for quieter or adult-led work. Free-flow play lets the age groups mix, while the older room places extra emphasis on independence and preparation for Reception.

Learning and Named Experiences

The EYFS organises early learning across communication and language, physical development, personal, social and emotional development, literacy, mathematics, understanding the world and expressive arts. Here, practitioners turn those areas into play, conversations, stories, physical challenges and planned experiences shaped by each child's interests. The nursery's additional programme gives that framework recognisable colour. Wild Fangs brings small mammals and reptiles into the setting, while police, ambulance and dental visitors help children understand community roles.

The indoor soft-play area is used by every age group. Shape blocks support early mathematics and climbing brings problem-solving into physical play. Outdoors, children make regular trips to places including the library, park, garden centre, farms, museums and woods. The nursery also participates in TFL Stars, using travel as a route into thinking about health, wellbeing and the environment.

Settling is unusually deliberate. The nursery requests a home visit shortly before a child starts, then recommends at least three to four weeks of gradually lengthened sessions. Parents stay for the first one or two sessions when needed, and the key person is chosen after staff have seen which practitioner the child naturally trusts. This asks families to invest time up front, but it gives attachment rather than administration the deciding role.

In November 2023, inspectors found that practitioners understood each child’s development and adapted support where extra help was needed, including for children with special educational needs and disabilities. Practitioners used home-language words and visual support for children learning English, while regular reading, singing and conversation broadened vocabulary. Safeguarding arrangements were effective at that inspection.

Parent communication combines daily face-to-face handovers with Blossom, the nursery's secure app for meals, sleep, observations, messages and progress reports. Twice-yearly parent evenings add a more formal review point. For school transition, future teachers may join stay-and-play sessions and children use photo booklets about their new settings. These links support familiarity but do not secure admission to any school.

Meals are cooked on site at No. 3 Gateway Mews and moved in a covered trolley to the nursery. The published menu is pescetarian, with fish and plant-based alternatives, and the setting publishes a nut-aware policy under which nuts are not permitted. Sessions and Attendance

It sells full-day places only, from 8am to 6pm, Monday to Friday; a later drop-off or earlier collection within that day is allowed. The nursery opens for 51 weeks, closing for one week at Christmas and on bank holidays. A full calendar month's written notice is required to change contracted days or end a contract.

Funding and Paid Extras

The nursery publishes participation in funded childcare for eligible working families from nine months and the 15- and 30-hour entitlements for three- and four-year-olds. Eligibility and the way hours fit a full-day contract should be checked against a written quotation. Its fees page says meals, snacks and additional activities are included in private fees. • Full days only. The published booking model is 8am to 6pm and does not include half-day sessions. Families needing short mornings or afternoons will need a different pattern.
• A long settling runway. The nursery recommends at least three to four weeks and asks a parent or carer to stay during the first sessions when needed. Plan this before returning to work.
• Behaviour guidance. In November 2023, Ofsted wanted staff to strengthen children’s understanding of how behaviour affects what happens next. Ask how practice has developed since then.
• Funded-hours structure. The provider accepts funded entitlements within a full-day model. Request a written breakdown of funded hours and any associated charges before agreeing a contract.

Rainbow Hill House combines thoughtful age-group spaces with a genuinely varied day: baby sensory play, preschool independence, indoor climbing, local trips and specialist visitors all have a clear purpose. The extended settling model and attachment-led choice of key person are meaningful strengths, supported by the secure relationships and effective safeguarding recorded in November 2023.

This setting best suits families seeking consistent Monday-to-Friday full-day care, especially those who value a long transition, plentiful physical play and community experiences. It will be less convenient for parents seeking morning, afternoon or half-day sessions.
