The Breezy Club, St. Martin of Porres School

A holiday playscheme where salt painting sits alongside forest cooking, The Breezy Club gives children aged three to seven an active, sociable day at St. Martin of Porres RC Primary School. Ofsted found that the provision met requirements at its July 2025 inspection and that safeguarding arrangements were effective.

The club operates during school holidays from 8.30am to 3.30pm. At the inspection, children settled readily into the day's rhythm and became absorbed in activities they had chosen for themselves.

This is out-of-school holiday care rather than a conventional room-based nursery. The Early Years Foundation Stage applies to younger children, combining learning, development and care through play and everyday experiences.

Activities seen in July 2025 had real substance. Salt painting prompted children to explore how watercolour behaves with salt and glue, while staff encouraged trial, error and problem-solving rather than rushing in with an answer. Outdoors, a river-crossing challenge developed coordination and teamwork. The forest area added cooking and story time, giving children another setting in which to cooperate.

Mixed-age cooperation was part of the club's character during the July visit. It gave children opportunities to learn from one another and take responsibility.

Staff knew the children well at the inspection and prepared activities around their interests and needs. Less-confident children received encouragement to join in, while children who were upset or frustrated had time to explain how they felt. Staff also made adjustments so children with special educational needs and disabilities could participate.

Safety practice was purposeful. Daily premises checks and activity risk assessments took place before children arrived, staff supervised routines carefully, and team members held current paediatric first-aid certificates. Parents provided detailed medical and dietary information, and received useful information before and during the playscheme.

Lunch was brought from home. Staff used mealtimes for conversation and reinforced handwashing and hydration after physical activity.

The club is based at St. Martin of Porres RC Primary School, Blake Road, London N11 2AF. Its published inspection information describes school-holiday operation from 8.30am to 3.30pm and records 100 places. At the July 2025 visit, the children attending were aged three to seven.
