Key-person knowledge was a strength. Staff assessed children's development, identified emerging gaps and adapted experiences to their interests. Children with SEND received shared support involving parents, schools, other professionals and Havering's SEND team. Visual aids helped non-verbal children and those needing support with attention to understand routines.

There are two important edges to that positive picture. Adults sometimes asked questions too quickly, reducing the time children had to think and answer. They also found that visual strategies for behaviour expectations were not always used consistently. These became the nursery's two improvement points.
