Partou Leo's Day Nursery & Pre-school

At a Glance

Ladybird searches and growing tadpoles give a concrete picture of learning at Leo's in West Bridgford: in July 2025, younger children connected books with discoveries in the garden, while older children used pond dipping to explore how animals change. Small discoveries carried the learning.

Ofsted rated the nursery Good on 24 July 2025 and judged its safeguarding arrangements effective. The nursery has capacity for 42 children, with an accepted age range of 3 to 60 months.

The Nursery Experience

The early years foundation stage sets the requirements for children's learning, development and care; here, the July 2025 examples included exploring nature, sharing stories and learning how to behave together.

In July 2025, children used magnifying glasses to look for ladybirds after studying pictures in a book. Older children examined tadpoles developing legs and anticipated their change into frogs. These activities connected information with something children could investigate themselves, rather than leaving the learning on the page.

Books supported both discovery and enjoyment. During that July visit, factual reading helped children explore insect habitats, while stories were something children chose for pleasure. Staff shared reading with them and helped them learn to handle books.

Neighbourhood mapping brought the wider world into activities in July 2025. Children recreated their local area, recognising a supermarket and football stadium; dragon dancing introduced a cultural celebration represented within the nursery. The emphasis was on connecting learning with familiar places and people's lives.

Care and Support

At the July 2025 inspection, Ofsted found that staff built secure relationships, responded promptly to younger children's distress and sleep needs, and used parents' advice to support children with special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND). For those children, repeating familiar ways of managing emotions linked care at home with care at nursery.

Communication also had a practical purpose in July 2025. Staff sought updates about home life so they could anticipate changes in children's behaviour. Parents reported feeling involved in their children's development and knowing how additional funding was used.

Preparation for school was individual in July 2025. Some children visited their future setting accompanied by nursery staff, while books and videos helped explain what school would be like. A familiar adult could therefore support the change where a child needed it.

Things to Consider

  • Individual staff training. In July 2025, leaders had overlooked some gaps in staff knowledge about how individual children learn. Ask how training now addresses each child's particular needs.
  • Starting with a baby. Children are accepted from 3 months, and responsive sleep care featured in July 2025. On a visit, how would settling and the sleeping arrangements work for your baby?

The Verdict

Leo's merits consideration for families who value books, practical discovery and individual preparation for school. Its July 2025 strengths were concrete: children linked reading with outdoor investigation, and staff used familiar adults and resources to support transitions. The staff-training concern deserves attention when deciding whether the care will meet your child's needs.
