Schools in Alnwick

England's traditional county town of Northumberland, Alnwick has served as the market hub of the northern uplands since around AD 600. Alnwick Castle, long the seat of the Earls of Northumberland, remains the town's defining landmark and shapes its compact sandstone centre. The 2021 Census counted around 8,000 residents.

As the principal settlement across northern Northumberland, Alnwick is the natural school-competitive focus for families throughout the area, with those from Lesbury and Whittingham among the surrounding villages that look to the town for secondary and sixth-form places. Alnmouth station, five miles east on the East Coast Main Line, reaches Newcastle upon Tyne in under forty minutes.
