Shaped by the Victorian railway age more than most English market towns, Carnforth sits at the north-east corner of Morecambe Bay in Lancashire. The West Coast Main Line still threads through the town centre, with trains reaching Lancaster in around ten minutes. The River Keer and the Lancaster Canal trace the older industrial geography, reminders of the ironworks that drove growth through the nineteenth century. Around 5,500 people lived in the parish at the 2021 census. Kirkby Lonsdale is widely regarded as one of the most school-competitive pockets in the area, while Carnforth itself draws families competing for primary places. Arnside and Warton extend the catchment south along the bay.
