Schools in Hitchin

Dating from at least the seventh century, Hitchin stands in the valley of the River Hiz at the north-eastern edge of the Chiltern Hills in Hertfordshire. Around 35,000 people live in the town today.

Hitchin Town Centre, built around the medieval parish church of St Mary and the former priory of 1317, is among the most sought-after areas for school catchments, with Highbury drawing families competing for primary places nearby. Lavender cultivation once defined the fields around the town, and the economic character shifted further when the Great Northern Railway opened Hitchin station in 1850, from which trains reach London King's Cross in around thirty-five minutes. Highover and Benslow form the quieter residential edges.
