Norton Common and Howard Park give Letchworth Garden City its distinctive green backbone, a settlement founded in 1903 as the world's first garden city on the chalk farmland of North Hertfordshire. Raymond Unwin and Barry Parker designed the original streets.
Around 34,000 people live in the town today, and Letchworth Garden City has long been regarded as one of North Hertfordshire's most sought-after areas for state school catchments, with Hillshott among the residential quarters that attract families planning their school search. Letchworth Garden City station, served by Great Northern trains, puts King's Cross around fifty minutes away for commuting parents.
