Nursery at Carr Manor Community School

Learning begins at two at Carr Manor, with communication, movement and understanding the world already part of the pre-school curriculum. Carr Manor Community Pre-school caters for children aged two to four on the school’s Carr Manor Road site in Leeds. It forms part of the school’s provision, rather than a separate nursery identity.
Ofsted judged the school’s early years provision Outstanding at its inspection on 4 and 5 February 2025. That judgement covers early years within the school inspection; it is not a separate pre-school rating. For parents considering this age group, it is the relevant provision judgement.
The Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) curriculum brings together children’s language, physical development and personal, social and emotional development. In plain parent language, those strands concern communicating, moving and developing relationships alongside learning. Maths, reading and phonics also appear in the pre-school curriculum, so early number and literacy learning sit alongside these developmental priorities.
Music and art feature too, together with science and understanding the world. These give the curriculum a creative and exploratory dimension: children’s learning encompasses expression and their surroundings as well as words and numbers. The subject headings describe the curriculum’s scope, rather than a timetable of separate lessons.
A named Learning and Relationship Agreement applies from early years onwards, setting expectations and learning goals. The school also uses its Learning Line across its provision to guide classroom practice. For families, these are useful reference points for understanding the school’s approach to learning and relationships. The pre-school curriculum page includes a Level 2 Sound Mat and Pure Sounds Videos, providing concrete resources connected to its phonics content.
Early years stay-and-play sessions were well attended in February 2025. They give parents a way to participate in the early years setting alongside their child, making family involvement part of the provision’s character.
Support also has a school-wide structure. A safeguarding team with several disciplines works across the school, providing intervention and support for children or families who need it. Parents can contact that team through the school telephone number. For enquiries about special educational needs and disabilities (SEND), the contact page directs families to ask for the SEND coordinator. These are distinct routes for discussing a safeguarding concern or an additional learning need.
Pre-school attendance does not guarantee a Reception place at Carr Manor. Families must make a separate Reception application to Leeds City Council through the normal application process and meet the deadline for their child’s entry year. Choosing the pre-school and applying for Reception are separate decisions.
That distinction matters even though the pre-school shares the school site. Familiarity with Carr Manor does not remove the need to apply again, and parents should keep the Reception application alongside their nursery planning.
The Carr Manor Community Pre-school Enquiry Form is the starting point for requesting a place. Submitting it does not secure a pre-school place: the school follows an enquiry with an email or telephone call. Treat it as the beginning of a conversation about joining.
Pre-school queries go through the Primary Phase office on 0113 3368400, selecting option 3. The school address is Carr Manor Road, Leeds, LS17 5DJ. Using the pre-school enquiry route keeps the request directed to the provision for this age group.
