Nursery at Shoreditch Park Primary School

An animal workshop and a Nutcracker dance workshop give Shoreditch Park’s nursery a character of its own. Indoor and outdoor learning spaces, the ASPIRE Learning Curriculum and weekly workshops form its offer for three- and four-year-olds within Shoreditch Park Primary School.
Children can start after turning three and stay until they begin primary school. The nursery’s charging and admissions policy provides for 25 full-time places, allocated to children with working parents, vulnerable children and those in need, alongside 10 part-time morning spaces. Those are distinct attendance options for families planning childcare. Ofsted graded the school’s early years provision Outstanding following its June 2024 inspection; that judgement covers early years within the school.
Play, exploration and communication give the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) its practical meaning here. In June 2024, children developed independence and communication through play in a safe early years environment. For parents, the emphasis is on learning to do things for themselves and express their ideas as well as preparing for later learning.
ASPIRE Learning Curriculum is the nursery’s named approach. Weekly workshops add another strand, with an animal workshop and Nutcracker dance workshop among its nursery highlights. These examples bring animals and movement into children’s learning rather than leaving the curriculum as a list of topics.
Learning takes place indoors and outdoors. Earlier nursery highlights include a doctors’ surgery role-play activity, cupcake baking and work on describing patterns and shapes. These are examples from previous school years, rather than a daily timetable, but they give parents concrete ways to picture the activities: imaginative play, practical making and opportunities to put observations into words.
Qualified teachers with experience are part of the nursery offer. During June 2024, staff checked learning as activities unfolded and gave feedback straight away, including in Nursery. This means support can respond to what a child is doing at that moment.
Before a child starts, the admissions team arranges a tour, handles administration and funding, then schedules a welcome meeting. That meeting gives the start a defined preparation stage. Settling-in features among the nursery’s earlier highlights, while open evenings let children explore the Early Years classrooms at their own pace and families meet teachers.
Nursery attendance does not guarantee a Reception place. Under Hackney’s community-school arrangements for 2027/28, nursery attendance gives no admissions priority: allocation follows the separate Reception criteria. Choose the nursery for the experience it offers now, and plan the school application separately.
For September 2027 entry, Hackney residents must apply again using Hackney Education’s Common Application Form, online or on paper, by 15 January 2027. Families living elsewhere apply through their home local authority. Familiarity with the school does not replace that application.
Funding covers 15 hours each week over 38 weeks for all families; eligibility conditions and a code apply to the 30-hour option. Morning places can be extended through paid additional hours, but a paid full-time place requires a full-week booking. Contributions depend on household income. Ask the school for current charges.
Breakfast and After School Club are included in the nursery offer. Applications can be made from age two and a half, using the online form, a paper copy from the office or an emailed form requested through admin@shoreditchpark.hackney.sch.uk. Tours can be reserved online, with weekly visits on Mondays at 10.15am.
Children can join after their third birthday. Applications are accepted from age two and a half, and admission takes place throughout the academic year.
The policy provides for 25 full-time places and 10 part-time morning spaces. Paid additional hours can extend a morning place, with paid full-time attendance requiring a full-week booking.
