Woodlands Park gives young children a play-led start with unusual depth: potion-making with herbs, large-scale painting, stories and songs during Island Time, and outings across London all appear in the evidence. The school accepts children from 9 months to 4 years, with provision organised around under-threes and three-to-four-year-olds.
Ofsted found in June 2023 that children flourished through attentive care and exciting learning, and confirmed that the school remained Outstanding. That judgement belongs to this maintained nursery school itself, rather than being borrowed from a wider primary school.
The Early Years Foundation Stage is taught through purposeful play. In practice, adults observe children's interests, join their play and plan experiences that build communication, physical development, early literacy, mathematics and understanding of the world. The school's curriculum also uses Planning in the Moment, a Seasonal Calendar and outdoor learning to connect those areas rather than teaching them as isolated lessons.
Specific experiences give the day character. Children learn stories and songs during Island Time, make model cakes while adults introduce new vocabulary, fill containers with water and develop imaginative videos about a space mission. Outdoors, the climbing frame encourages measured risk, while coloured liquids and herbs become potions. Regular art and music lead to children's own wall designs, compositions and performances.
Learning reaches beyond the site too. In June 2023, children took outings in the local area, visited London landmarks and travelled using public transport. These experiences give children real settings in which to practise language, curiosity and independence.
Every child is paired with an adult they can trust, who keeps a close eye on how that child is getting on. In June 2023, this close support helped children settle quickly, cooperate and play well together. Staff also helped children think about how their behaviour affects others and make everyday choices, including choosing meals at a family table.
Support for children with SEND was a clear strength in June 2023. Leaders identified needs carefully, worked with external agencies and adapted activities so children could participate and learn successfully. Safeguarding arrangements were effective, with regular staff training, clear reporting procedures and links to outside agencies.
Parent partnership is practical as well as pastoral. In June 2023, staff worked closely with families, whose feedback valued seeing their children thrive. Families can also see how home learning and partnership with parents sit within the school's curriculum planning.
There is no automatic progression into Reception. Families must apply separately through the normal primary-school admissions route and meet its deadline. No admissions priority for attending Woodlands Park is stated here.
Preparation for the next stage instead comes through children's growing independence, communication and resilience. The school says its curriculum is designed to prepare children for transition to primary school, while Ofsted found in June 2023 that children had developed the skills and confidence needed for what came next. That educational preparation is valuable, but it is separate from the Reception admissions decision.
Woodlands Park is on Woodlands Park Road in Tottenham, N15 3SD. Applications are submitted to the school with the child's birth certificate and two proofs of address. The school publishes that it does not keep waiting lists and provides application updates by email.
For three-year-olds, the published term-time patterns include five morning sessions from 8.30am to 11.30am or five afternoon sessions from 12.30pm to 3.30pm. Longer funded and paid patterns run to 3.30pm or 6pm, generally across four or five days. The school also publishes 15-hour and 30-hour funded arrangements, subject to eligibility, with breakfast included in specified longer patterns. Lunch is charged separately, so families should ask the school for current charges and confirm which pattern fits their entitlement.
