Reaching from the Thames bank and Rainham Marshes in the south to the Metropolitan Green Belt in the north, Havering is the easternmost London borough, home to around 265,000 residents. The name recalls the Royal Liberty of Havering, an ancient Crown estate that occupied the area for several centuries. Romford, the principal town, has held market rights since at least the thirteenth century and remains the borough's main retail and commercial hub.
Upminster and Hornchurch draw families competing for school places, with Upminster widely regarded as one of the borough's most sought-after areas for school catchments. Chadwell Heath adds further demand at the western edge. Harold Wood and Romford connect to Liverpool Street on the Elizabeth line, while the District line reaches Upminster from central London.
