Schools in South Ockendon

Post-war housing estates set against a flat Essex skyline give South Ockendon its defining character, a planned overspill town developed from the 1950s onward on the edge of Thurrock, just outside the M25 and close to the Greater London border. Around 22,000 people lived here at the 2021 census. The parish was abolished for civil purposes in 1936 when the area merged into the borough.

Aveley is known for its school catchments and draws families looking for primary places in this part of Essex, while South Ockendon has long been a school-competitive corner of Thurrock. Ockendon station on the c2c line puts London Fenchurch Street roughly 45 minutes away.
