Nursery at Bevington Primary School

Contact the nursery directly to confirm current arrangements. If you spot anything outdated or inaccurate, please let us know.

At a Glance

A full school day, a key person and the option of longer care shape Bevington’s nursery offer. This is Bevington Primary School’s own provision on Bevington Road, London, for children aged two to four: full-time places for three- and four-year-olds, with eligible younger children joining as rising threes. The younger group starts with mornings during its first term, giving families a shorter initial attendance pattern.

The Nursery Day

The core day starts at 8.50am and ends at 3.15pm. A qualified nursery teacher leads alongside an Early Years Educator, while key persons support children in small groups. That structure gives each child an identified adult within the nursery team.

The Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) covers learning and development alongside children’s welfare. In parent language, its learning areas bring together talking, movement, relationships, early reading and maths, creativity and discovering the world. These are the framework’s areas, rather than a timetable of Bevington activities.

Adult involvement deserves close attention here. At the February 2024 inspection, Ofsted judged early years provision Requires improvement. Children sometimes received attentive, caring interaction, but this happened too infrequently; some spent stretches of time disengaged. For families, the question is how adults help children join in and sustain their interest throughout a session.

Care and Support

Each child has a key person, and wraparound care becomes bookable after settling-in has finished. Plan the initial childcare arrangements around that condition. For children with identified SEND, the school’s transition policy allows for a phased start, a home visit or a booklet to help prepare for nursery; these are possible arrangements tailored to need, rather than a fixed package for everyone.

Meals and snacks are included in the nursery’s fee options. This makes food part of the attendance arrangement, rather than a separate item for families to organise under those options.

Bevington’s SEND arrangements use a cycle of assessing needs, planning support, putting it into practice and reviewing it with parents. The school’s resources include a sensory room and quieter spaces, with adjustments such as ear defenders available for sensory needs. These are school resources, rather than facilities described as exclusive to nursery.

Support for behaviour also needs scrutiny. In February 2024, some early years children showed physically challenging behaviour, and the support provided did not meet their needs adequately. Discuss how the team would respond to your child’s difficulties and help them participate alongside other children.

Moving On to Reception

Nursery attendance does not guarantee a Reception place. Families must make a separate application through the RBKC Primary School Admissions page, following the normal Reception application timetable. There is no automatic move from nursery into Reception, so keep that application separate from nursery bookings and funding arrangements.

For children with SEND, transition preparation can include visits to a new classroom, social stories and meetings with receiving staff. Parents participate in planning these arrangements. Familiarisation supports the child’s adjustment; it does not replace the admissions application.

Practical Information

Extended care spans 7.45am to 5.45pm, Monday to Friday, and is available to book once the child has settled. Eligible rising threes attend mornings only during their first term. Match the attendance pattern to your child’s eligibility and the settling period before planning a longer day.

For eligible working families of three- and four-year-olds, a 30-hour funding code can support five full days, with an additional charge. Families using 15-hour funding can also choose full-time attendance with payment. Eligible rising threes have a funded 15-hour option. Contact the school office for current charges.

A funding code must be valid before the term starts, and eligibility needs reconfirming every three months. Nursery enquiries and tour bookings go through the office at info@bevington.rbkc.sch.uk or 020 8969 0629. A tour with the Head of School offers a practical opportunity to discuss the nursery day and your child’s settling arrangements.

FAQs

The nursery caters for children aged two to four. Eligible two-year-olds who turn three within their admission term can join as rising threes, attending mornings only in their first term.

The core day is 8.50am to 3.15pm. Extended care runs from 7.45am to 5.45pm, Monday to Friday, and becomes bookable after settling-in.

No. A separate application is required through the RBKC Primary School Admissions page; nursery attendance does not bring automatic transfer.

The nursery’s fee options include school meals and snacks. Ask the school office for current charges and the funding option applicable to your child.

Ofsted’s inspection on 28 and 29 February 2024 judged early years provision Requires improvement. Adult interactions were sometimes positive but too infrequent, some children became disengaged, and support for physically challenging behaviour in early years was inadequate.
