Nursery at Wyvil Primary School

Number and language shape Wyvil’s early years spaces, indoors and outside. That gives this school nursery a clear learning focus alongside its practical choice of morning, afternoon or full-day attendance. The nursery class at Wyvil Primary School in Vauxhall offers places for three- and four-year-olds.
Ofsted graded the school’s early years provision Good following its visit on 12 and 13 June 2024. That judgement covers the early years within the school, rather than a separately inspected nursery.
The Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) is the framework used here. In June 2024, the indoor and outdoor early years environments were arranged around language and number, with mathematical knowledge developing from this stage. The useful distinction for parents is that learning extends across both spaces, rather than being confined to indoor lessons.
London Tube stations give the early years classrooms their themes. It is a specific local touch, while the inspection evidence gives the firmer picture of how the learning environment works. Children in early years responded well to instructions and showed positive behaviour in June 2024, supporting their participation in the day’s learning.
For children attending full time, the nursery timetable includes lunch between 11.45am and 12.45pm. Morning and afternoon places provide shorter attendance patterns, so the choice changes how much of the day a child spends at nursery.
Settling arrangements for children with special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND) involve families directly. The SEND information describes nursery-entry visits by the SENCO and/or EYFS manager, with changes to settling agreed with parents where helpful. A teacher meeting follows settling to discuss learning and progress. This gives families a planned opportunity to review how the start has gone.
Parents can raise concerns first with the class teacher, while the SENCO coordinates additional support. Individual Education Plans, where needed, are discussed with parents each term. The application form also asks about medical needs, dietary requirements and food allergies, giving families a route to share care information before attendance.
Preparation resources include help with toileting, dressing and hand washing. There are also parent language resources in Somali, Portuguese, Chinese and Arabic, extending the starting-school guidance to families using those languages.
Nursery attendance does not guarantee a Reception place. Families must make a separate Reception application through the normal admissions process and meet the deadline for their child’s entry year.
The school’s 2024/25 admission arrangements directed families to their home local authority’s Common Application Form. Those arrangements did not include nursery attendance among the priority criteria. They specified a 15 January deadline for that admissions cycle; families should use the arrangements for the year in which their child will start.
For children with SEND moving between classes, transition support includes sharing information with the next teacher and inviting parents to meet them. A transition book can be provided when helpful. These are preparation measures, separate from the allocation of a place.
Full-day attendance runs from 8.45am to 3.15pm; the morning timetable runs from 8.45am to 11.45am. Afternoon timing. The school-day timetable gives a 12.05pm start, while the admissions page gives 12.15pm; both end at 3.15pm. Confirm the booked start time before organising collection and childcare.
The nursery offers the 15-hour funded entitlement and 30-hour placements subject to eligibility. Families eligible only for 15 hours can pay for additional attendance to take a full-time place; contact the school for current charges. Intake is typically in January and September.
Return the nursery application to the school office. Enquiries go to admissions@wyvil.org.uk or 020 7622 1164. EYFS open days offer a chance to meet the team and explore the learning spaces, with booking through the open-day page. Red sweatshirts are reserved for part-time nursery children.
