Acting out favourite stories and building bridges give Seedlings its character: early learning with things to do, handle and talk about. This is the preschool within Forest and Sandridge Church of England Primary School in Melksham, serving children aged three and four. It accommodates a maximum of 24 children at once.
Children take part in the school community and encounter its Christian values and expectations for behaviour. Seedlings aims to welcome local families inclusively while recognising each child individually. In February 2025, Ofsted judged the school's early years provision Outstanding. That judgement covers early years within the school, rather than a separate nursery inspection.
Stories become something children participate in. In February 2025, nursery children dramatised tales they enjoyed, making books part of their play. Early years routines also supported children to manage activities independently and make purposeful use of their time.
The Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) learning here includes practical exploration of number, shape and measurement. The maths approach for three- and four-year-olds asks adults to introduce vocabulary through play, rather than expect children to repeat formal mathematical language. Numicon shapes, counting songs and Numberblocks feature in the planned activities. Children build towers and bridges, compare quantities and use drawings or marks to represent mathematical ideas. These give abstract ideas something concrete to attach to.
Indoor resources include loose objects for sorting and comparing, alongside playdough and construction blocks. Outdoors, the learning plan includes tyres, crates, planks and tree stumps. Water trays and containers of different sizes create opportunities to explore capacity and move water around. The emphasis is on trying things out.
Settling sessions take place before children begin or at the start of the autumn term. Parents complete information about their child beforehand, while registration gathers medical needs, allergens, contact details and a collection password. This gives staff practical information to prepare for the child's start.
Colour groups linked to a key worker feature in the nursery's routines. Snack time includes fruit and milk, with quantities also used for mathematical activities. Lunch is scheduled between 11:45am and 12:15pm, giving the full day a defined midday break.
For children needing additional support, families can contact the school's SENCO through the office. School SEND arrangements include classroom help, individual sessions and small groups. Parents of children on the SEND register are invited to termly meetings to review support, giving them a regular opportunity to contribute to decisions.

For September 2026 entry, nursery attendance did not confer priority under the Reception oversubscription criteria, and the application deadline was 15 January 2026. Keep the nursery booking and the Reception application separate when planning your child's next step.
