On the River Avon in Wiltshire, Melksham is a market town of around 18,000 residents, set in the broad vale between Trowbridge to the southwest and Chippenham to the north. The town expanded through the twentieth century to form distinct residential neighbourhoods: Bowerhill, spreading south from the town centre, is among the most sought-after pockets for primary catchments, while Forest and Sandridge draw families competing for school places on the eastern edge. Trains on the TransWilts line reach Bath in around forty minutes.
