Schools in Radstock

Once the beating heart of the Somerset coalfield, Radstock is a compact post-industrial town of around 9,000 on the northern slope of the Mendip Hills, nine miles south-west of Bath. Coal was discovered here in 1763, and by 1901 the district was running 79 separate collieries. Mining shaped everything. The Writhlington spoil heap is now a designated fossil site, yielding more than 1,400 insect specimens from the Upper Carboniferous.

Midsomer Norton, immediately adjacent, is the most school-competitive corner of this part of Somerset, with Westfield and Stratton-on-the-Fosse drawing families looking for catchment options across primary and secondary phases. Bath Spa provides the main rail link to the wider region, with Writhlington and Chilcompton to the south.
