Where the Cleveland Hills meet the North Sea at the foot of a striking coastal escarpment, Saltburn-by-the-Sea grew as a planned Victorian resort in the 1860s, its pier and cliff lift still intact along the Redcar and Cleveland coast. Around 6,000 people live in the town today.
