Schools in Sherborne

On the River Yeo at the edge of the Blackmore Vale in north-west Dorset, Sherborne is a market town of around 10,000 people whose medieval core, built largely from honey-brown Sherborne Stone, includes a twelfth-century fortified palace, a sixteenth-century castle, and the Abbey Church that has anchored the town since Saxon times. Thornford lies to the east.

Sherborne has long been a school-competitive corner of Dorset, with families across the area targeting its state and independent provision; Trent, to the north, draws families who want a village address within reach of the town’s school catchments. Trains from Sherborne station on the West of England Main Line reach Exeter in around an hour.
