At a Glance

At the July 2022 inspection, Blossomfield’s nursery children used recipes for potion-making in the outdoor mud kitchen and learnt to listen and follow classroom routines. Its provision for children aged three to four sits within Blossomfield Infant and Nursery School on Eastcote Close in Shirley, Solihull.

Children join in September after turning three, with the birthday cut-off falling on 31 August. Families can choose a morning, afternoon or longer nursery day. Both the 15-hour and 30-hour patterns include access to a qualified teacher in each session, so choosing shorter hours does not mean losing that teaching input.

The Nursery Day

Play has a clear learning purpose here. Staff use the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS), the framework covering young children’s care and development, alongside Development Matters guidance. In everyday terms, children practise looking after themselves, solving problems and playing with others while beginning to explore numbers and written language. Teachers follow each child’s development across the nursery year.

Outdoor learning has a specific example behind it. At the inspection on 12 and 13 July 2022, Ofsted found that nursery children were learning classroom routines and listening to adults, while enjoying activities such as making mixtures from recipes in the mud kitchen. Activities involving sounds within words prepared children for later phonics learning. These are foundations for learning, rather than a claim about reading results.

For children staying into Treehouse care, the surroundings change to two childcare rooms. Role play, drawing and construction resources give them choices beyond their nursery session. After school, activities include crafts and games organised around themes; in warmer months, outdoor options include a trim trail and climbing frame. These belong to the wraparound provision, rather than describing the nursery classroom itself.

Care and Support

Settling is supported through play, opportunities to spend time outdoors and quieter periods when children need them. The childcare team works with parents on communication and routines. Nursery welcome meetings and family workshops on play, maths and early writing give parents practical ways to connect with their child’s learning.

Food arrangements depend on the session. The 2025/26 charging structure includes a hot lunch with the longer day starting at 8:45am. Nursery charges also cover snacks, non-dairy milk and small consumables, including craft materials; staff may request nappies or wipes when needed. In Treehouse Breakfast Club, breakfast is served until 8:30am, with fruit, yoghurt, cereals and toast among the choices. Later after-school sessions include a snack tea, which is intended to bridge the gap to an evening meal.

Support has identifiable routes: the school has a SENCO, and its SEND page links families to Solihull’s Local Offer and SENDIAS advice service. The curriculum policy provides for adapting learning for children with special educational needs or disabilities. That makes inclusion a planning responsibility across staff.

Moving On to Reception

Attending Blossomfield’s nursery does not guarantee a Reception place. Families must make a separate Reception application through the normal admissions process and meet its deadline. Treat choosing nursery and applying for Reception as two separate decisions.

Practical Information

Morning sessions run from 8:45am to 11:45am; afternoons run from 12:15pm to 3:15pm. The longer day finishes at 3:15pm, with either an 8:45am or 9:15am start. The latter forms the 30-hour weekly pattern; the earlier start adds time and has a different charging arrangement.

Funding options include 15 hours, fully funded 30 hours and partly funded longer provision. Eligibility applies to the working-parent entitlement. Wraparound funding. Nursery funding applies during school hours and excludes before-school and after-school clubs, so families needing a longer day must budget for those separately.

Treehouse can extend care from 7:30am until 6pm, Monday to Friday, using fixed or flexible bookings. Staff escort children between club and classroom. For nursery applications, session enquiries or a visit, contact the childcare team at childcare@blossomfield.solihull.sch.uk or 07799582256. Ask for current charges before booking.
