Bamboo Kids

At a Glance

Mirrors, reflective balls and light-up panels give Bamboo Kids’ toddler provision a concrete identity: this Bradford nursery puts children’s curiosity to work through play. Its three early-years rooms move from babies’ exploration to toddlers’ sensory play and preschool children’s growing independence. There is provision for older children too, through Big Kids Club.

Bamboo Kids’ provision spans babies to children aged 11. Ofsted rated it Good at its July 2021 inspection. That is a dated judgement, rather than a fresh assessment of today’s care.

For parents, the useful combination is age-specific rooms, a key worker system and attendance options that include morning, afternoon and full-day sessions. The detail matters: the nursery day and the older children’s club have different booking hours.

The Nursery Experience

Rooms and Ages

Baby Bear cubs, for children aged 0 to 2 years, combines natural textures with soft surroundings and opportunities to explore and practise movement. That gives the youngest children an environment organised around their early physical development.

For two-year-olds, Tiny Tigers has loose parts and areas arranged for different stages of development, with mirrors, light-up panels and reflective balls supporting sensory exploration. These are tangible resources for children who learn by handling objects and investigating what they do.

Playful Pandas, for ages 3 to 5, builds activities around children’s interests, with shared experiences supporting independence and staff recording learning and development. The emphasis changes with age: preschool children have opportunities to act for themselves and learn alongside friends.

Learning and Activities

The EYFS provides the framework across seven areas of learning. Here, children practise movement in Baby Bear cubs, investigate sensory resources in Tiny Tigers and develop independence through shared activities in Playful Pandas. Children follow their interests and learn at their own pace. This is the foundation of the nursery day; the more useful question for parents is how staff turn those interests into experiences.

Bamboo Kids uses In The Moment planning, a child-led approach in which children’s interests guide staff’s planning. Its practical value is the connection between what catches a child’s attention and what they explore next. Hands-on experiences and gentle encouragement are central to the approach.

Big Kids Club serves children aged 4 to 11. Baking and craft sit alongside a homework area, reading space, console games and table games, giving older children choices beyond the early-years room activities. School collection and drop-off are part of its before- and after-school provision, while holiday sessions offer several lengths of day.

Care and Support

A key worker system gives children an identified adult relationship within the wider staff team. For families, that provides a clear basis for discussing a child’s interests and development, rather than treating care as a series of interchangeable sessions.

The baby-room team receives training in caring for babies and paediatric first aid. Across the nursery, professional development includes first aid and health and safety. Those are concrete training arrangements; they do not replace an inspection judgement about the effectiveness of care.

Communication continues through Famly, the app enrolled families can use to contact the nursery. In Playful Pandas, staff record children’s development and provide additional support where required. Famly gives enrolled parents a communication route, while Playful Pandas staff keep records of children’s learning and development.

Meals are provided, with a menu aimed at children aged 0 to 5, and children help prepare food and set the table. Mealtimes therefore also offer practical opportunities to take part, describe tastes and textures, and do something useful alongside eating.

Practical Information

Sessions and Attendance

The address is Tong Building Ltd, 62 Tong Street, Bradford, BD4 9LX. Nursery sessions run throughout the year, with the main opening window from 8am to 6pm, five days a week. Early starts between 7am and 8am are an additional option. Closures include bank holidays and one week at Christmas.

Morning sessions run from 8am to 1pm, afternoons from 1pm to 6pm, and full days from 8am to 6pm. Flexible hours are also offered for eligible families using funded entitlement. This gives parents several ways to arrange attendance, rather than a single fixed length of day.

For children using the 15-hour entitlement, the pattern is three mornings or three afternoons each week. For the 30-hour entitlement, the choices are five short days from 9am to 3pm or three full days from 8am to 6pm. These are specific attendance arrangements, so the funded pattern deserves as much attention as the headline number of hours.

Big Kids Club runs before school from 7am to 9am and after school from 3pm to 6pm, including school transport. Holiday bookings include full days from 7am to 6pm, short days from 8am to 3pm or 9am to 4pm, and half days from 8am to 1pm or 1pm to 6pm.

Funding and Paid Extras

Both 15- and 30-hour funded entitlements are offered to eligible families, alongside additional hours such as early starts. Eligibility remains a condition of the funded offer. Enquiries can be made by telephone, email or the contact form; current prices should come in the nursery’s written quotation.

Things to Consider

  • Funded attendance patterns. The 15-hour offer uses three mornings or afternoons, while the 30-hour offer uses five short days or three full days. Compare those actual hours with your working week before choosing a pattern.
  • Nursery and club hours. The nursery’s full day begins at 8am, while Big Kids Club’s holiday full day begins at 7am. Families arranging care for children of different ages need to account for that distinction.
  • Care and total cost. At a visit, how are settling and sleep organised for your child’s age, and how are meals and non-food consumables treated in the written quotation for your chosen funded or paid pattern?

The Verdict

Bamboo Kids suits families considering morning or afternoon nursery sessions as well as full days, with older children’s school and holiday care providing another practical option. Tiny Tigers’ sensory resources and the interest-led planning give the early-years offer substance beyond general promises about play.

The Good judgement belongs to July 2021. For a decision now, the strongest practical details are the separate age-group rooms, the key worker arrangement and the clearly defined attendance patterns. Match those patterns to the family timetable, then use a visit to explore the care routines that matter most to your child.
