Bright Horizons Beaufort Park Day Nursery and Preschool

A child-led train-station visit says much about Beaufort Park: staff noticed an interest in transport, followed it into the community, then extended it through junk modelling and conversation. This 1 Heritage Avenue setting cares for babies and children from three months to five years and has capacity for 102 children.

Ofsted judged the nursery Good in April 2024. Children formed strong bonds with key people, behaved well and approached learning with curiosity. The same report found safeguarding arrangements effective.

The Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) provides the statutory framework. In practical terms, children build communication, physical, personal and early academic skills through play shaped around their interests and next steps.

In April 2024, local museum, library and train-station visits broadened the curriculum. Children fed and cared for the nursery's animals, while stories, songs, visual aids and home languages built communication. Mathematics entered play through shape, position, numeral recognition, writing and counting. This made early number and spatial language part of activity rather than a detached lesson. Inspectors saw age-appropriate gross-motor practice across the age range, with physical challenges developing as children grew. Water, sand, play dough and other malleable materials exercised smaller muscles too, connecting energetic movement with the hand control later needed for writing.

Key-person relationships were a clear strength in April 2024: babies reached towards familiar adults for reassurance, and older children played cooperatively. Calm, consistent adults modelled behaviour and held high expectations, helping children learn kindness and consideration. That combination matters: comfort for the youngest children did not displace expectations as children grew.

Communication received similarly practical attention. Most staff used stories, songs and visual aids, drawing appropriately on children's home languages. Staff shared daily and developmental information with parents and worked with other professionals for children with special educational needs and/or disabilities. This gave families a route between nursery learning and home rather than treating the two as separate worlds. Independence also ran through physical play and lunchtime routines. Together, these observations show a day in which care, communication and learning overlapped instead of sitting in separate timetable compartments.

Healthy routines carried real responsibility. Everyday mealtimes gave children practice in personal care and, as they grew, responsibility for helping with the routine. These were small but useful acts of independence, placing self-care and contribution inside the ordinary day.

The nursery is at 1 Heritage Avenue, Hendon, London NW9 5FW. Its provision is classed as full day care. It operates all year, closing for bank holidays and Christmas.

Capacity covers 102 children from three months to five years. That is a whole-setting figure, not a room size or a statement about current vacancies. Families comparing care for a baby should therefore concentrate on the everyday grouping and key-person continuity they are offered, rather than reading the total as a description of a baby's immediate environment.

• Transitions between activities. In April 2024, some children wandered after finishing activities because support between one part of the day and the next was inconsistent. Families should explore how quieter transition periods now keep children engaged.
• Consistency of teaching. Ofsted asked leaders to coach and mentor less-confident staff so that interactions were consistently strong. This matters because the quality of adult conversation should not depend on who is working that day. Ask what coaching now looks like in practice and how leaders check its effect.
• Group-wide safeguarding action. A June 2026 Ofsted document required Bright Horizons Family Solutions Limited to strengthen safeguarding oversight across its provision by 1 August 2026. It did not identify a breach at Beaufort Park and said the action did not reflect concerns at every setting, but families may want to ask how the group-wide requirements have been implemented here.

Beaufort Park's strongest evidence is rooted in responsive practice: a transport interest became a real outing and further play, while animals gave children daily responsibility. The April 2024 inspection also shows secure relationships, purposeful language work and independence threaded through routines. It is best suited to families who value interest-led outings and key-person continuity, provided they are comfortable asking direct questions about staff coaching, transitions and the current effect of the group-wide safeguarding action.
