Bluebells Nursery is a small, sessional setting with capacity for 20 children in a church hall on Lady Margaret Road, Kentish Town. Its latest full Ofsted inspection, in January 2020, judged it Good overall and Outstanding for leadership and management.
The strongest picture from that visit was of children who settled quickly, formed close bonds with staff and confidently chose what to explore. The report is now more than six years old, so its account describes practice at that inspection rather than today's daily offer.
In January 2020, inspectors saw sensory and creative activities pitched to children's different stages of development. The environment had recently been rearranged to give children more room to move, see resources and choose their play. Those are useful examples of an active, child-led day rather than a timetable dominated by adult direction.
In England, the Early Years Foundation Stage provides the statutory educational framework: practitioners plan across communication, physical, personal, social and broader learning, using children's development to decide what comes next. In January 2020, small-group listening activities, stories and a music session supported attention, language and early literacy. Outdoors, children used scooters and practised ball skills; indoors, large play equipment supported climbing and sliding.
Relationships were a clear strength in January 2020. In January 2020, children were helped to settle quickly. Staff care and communication with parents were further strengths. Families received progress updates, home-learning ideas and workshops about children's learning, giving parents practical ways to connect nursery experiences with home.
Assessment informed tailored support, with the same ambition extending to children with special educational needs and disabilities. The January 2020 safeguarding judgement was effective, and staff practice at the time gave inspectors confidence that concerns would be handled appropriately. The sole improvement point was to make fuller use of questioning, indoors and outdoors, to extend learning.

Bluebells Nursery's small 20-place scale and the warm relationships documented in January 2020 make it worth considering for families drawn to a compact, sessional setting. The inspection described confident choice, purposeful physical play and strong communication with parents. The age of that evidence is the important counterweight: the nursery is best suited to parents willing to establish the present attendance pattern and current practice before committing.
In January 2020, Ofsted judged the nursery Good overall and Outstanding for leadership and management. Ofsted found safeguarding effective in January 2020, while improving staff questioning was the identified next step.
