Cosy reading spaces, a gardening area and weekly library visits give Kinder Giggles Nursery & Pre-School a clear character: play extends beyond the main rooms, while quieter spaces have a place in the day too. Based at New Century House in Dukinfield, the nursery takes children aged 2 to 60 months and has capacity for 55 children in total.
At its December 2024 inspection, Ofsted rated the nursery Good, found safeguarding effective and recognised appropriate support when children's development caused concern, while asking for more precise learning steps and better teaching of early writing. That balance matters: the overall judgement was positive, but the detail gives families useful questions about teaching.
The Hygge Approach brings comfortable spaces, natural materials and planning shaped by children's interests. All-day attendance runs from 7.30am to 6pm, with funded childcare also offered.
The Baby Room emphasises sensory exploration and movement, with soft play, a ball pit and natural resources offering different ways to investigate textures and practise physical skills. A reading nook uses drapes and fairy lights to create a quieter place for books. These are concrete choices for a baby whose day needs both activity and pauses.
Toddler Room and Pre-School Room are also part of the nursery's room structure. Across the setting, children can use a sensory room, while the outdoor learning space includes a purpose-built classroom and an area for growing flowers, fruit and vegetables. Gardening gives children something living to care for, rather than keeping outdoor activity entirely separate from learning.
The EYFS shapes the day through play and activities matched to children's interests and stage of development across its areas of learning. Alongside that shared framework, the Hygge Approach influences the surroundings and the way activities develop: neutral tones sit alongside colour, and staff build learning around what children choose to explore.
In December 2024, stories and children's name cards were part of daily learning. Younger children used their names to find their snack-table places; older children explored the link between a name's first letter and its sound. Such routines put early literacy into something children have a reason to recognise.
The same visit showed why precision matters. Some toddlers were asked to recognise a written month before those words held meaning for them, and preschool scissor work needed clearer next steps. Early writing also needed attention: tracing letters came before children had learned how to form them. These examples make the teaching priorities more useful than a general request to improve learning.
Weekly visits to the library and local park take learning into the neighbourhood. Books and outdoor exploration therefore extend beyond the nursery's own resources, giving children experiences to talk about back in their rooms.
In December 2024, preschool children used a climbing wall and tunnel slide, with staff nearby to supervise and encourage them. Younger toddlers practised larger movements by throwing cotton-wool balls towards a sticky target. The activities differed by stage, but both put physical coordination into play.
World Book Day is an annual celebration of reading. For its March 2025 celebration, children were encouraged to bring a favourite book to share with friends. The emphasis was on the books themselves, connecting a named event with something children could contribute.
Babies have a dedicated key worker, and care routines are adapted to the individual child. That gives families a particular relationship around which to build communication, rather than treating baby care as a single routine for everyone.
Stay and Play Sessions let parents take part in nursery experiences and spend time with their child's key worker. Their practical value is straightforward: parents can see the relationship developing through shared activity.
In December 2024, a picture timetable helped children anticipate changes between activities. A handbell prompted preschool children to pause and listen, while a doll signalled singing time for babies. These small cues made the day's expectations visible or recognisable before staff needed to explain them again.
At the December 2024 inspection, Ofsted found that staff assessed development accurately, worked with parents and followed specialist advice where extra help was needed, and used additional funding effectively. This is a specific account of how support worked at that visit, rather than a promise about every child's future experience.
A SENDCO role is part of the Baby Room team structure, and families can access health visitor advice and links with local health services. Staff development includes courses, training within the nursery and longer qualification routes. The useful combination is access to advice for families and continued learning for practitioners.
Meals and snacks are provided, including a hot lunch with two courses and an evening meal. This puts food into the nursery day alongside care and play.
The address is New Century House, Victoria Road, Hyde, SK16 4XS; the nursery's local setting is Dukinfield. Opening hours are 7.30am to 6pm, Monday to Friday, and the named All day pattern uses that same window.
The nursery operates for 51 weeks of the year, closing on bank holidays and during the Christmas/New Year week. For working families, those closures are part of planning the year's childcare, rather than just the weekly timetable.
Enquiries can be made through the contact form or by telephone on 0161 338 5977. The form includes the child's potential start date and the days required, so the initial enquiry can describe the attendance a family wants.
Funded childcare is offered for eligible families, including funding from 9 months, eligible two-year-olds and the 15- and 30-hour offers for older children. The nursery's stretched arrangements spread funded hours over 51 or 48 weeks, rather than concentrating them solely into term time.
Eligibility conditions still apply. Families should obtain a current written quotation for their chosen arrangement; the useful comparison is between funded hours and the complete childcare arrangement they intend to book.
Kinder Giggles suits families who want all-day attendance or childcare organised around stretched funded hours, with child-led play, neighbourhood outings and quieter spaces all contributing to its character. The Baby Room's physical resources and dedicated key worker give the youngest children's experience some substance beyond general promises of care.
The December 2024 Good judgement supports a positive assessment, with precise teaching and early writing the points to examine closely. For parents who value library visits, gardening and an interest-led day, there is a clear offer to weigh against their child's routines and attendance needs.
