One of England's first designated post-war New Towns, Crawley was remade under the 1946 Act from a coaching-road market town into a planned borough that now counts around 118,000 residents across West Sussex. The town gained market rights in 1202, grew as a coaching stop on the London-to-Brighton road, and absorbed a rail link in 1841; its outer southern edge still borders the High Weald.
Three Bridges is among the most competitive postcodes for school catchments in the borough, alongside Maidenbower, which draws families targeting primary places to its south-east. Turners Hill sits at the southern borough boundary, where Crawley meets the High Weald National Landscape, and is known for its sought-after school catchments. Southgate and Langley Green complete the central residential arc. From Three Bridges station, Southern and Thameslink services reach London Bridge and London Victoria in around forty minutes on the Brighton Main Line.
