A market town of around 15,000 people set entirely within the South Downs National Park, Petersfield occupies the northern slope of the Downs at a historic crossroads in East Hampshire, where the old Portsmouth Road once paused coach traffic between the capital and the naval port. Ramshill, rising above the market square, is among the most sought-after pockets for primary catchments in the district, while Stroud and Steep draw families competing for school places at the quieter parish edges. The Portsmouth Direct line runs Petersfield station to Portsmouth Harbour in around twenty minutes.
