One of Hampshire's oldest settlements, Havant traces its origins to a Celtic community that preceded the Roman road through the south-east corner of England. The town sits at the head of Langstone Harbour between Portsmouth and Chichester, with South Western Railway trains reaching Portsmouth in under fifteen minutes. Housing and population more than doubled in the two decades after World War II, drawing families onto new residential estates across the borough. Leigh Park is widely regarded as one of Havant's most competitive catchments for state school places, with Warblington and West Leigh also drawing families towards primary provision in the older parts of town. Some 46,000 residents live within the town itself.
